Update & Review

HEY every one! This has one busy week. I got three medals at Acadec weekend. Two bronze and one gold. The bronze were for Lang/lit and social science.  And the gold was for Super quiz. I would like to congratulate all the other kids who competed and thank the people who set up the program, weekend, and every thing. It was an amazing experience. Enough about that... ON TO THE BOOKS! I finally got to finnish The Friday Society and I was going to read The Demon Catchers of Milan But I was having troubles with it. Sorry for those waiting for that. I just couldn't get in to it. Other than that I have about three more books I getting out of the library. I am not going to tell you the titles because I just don't know if I am going to get to them all! Or if I like them at all! What I am really waiting for is Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. For now that's whats been up and why I haven't posted any thing for a while. Now on to the review!

The Friday Society by Adrienne Kress

This book starts off with us meeting Cora. A girl who used to live on the street. Now she works for a lord and does a lot of science. After we meet Cora, we meet  Nellie. She is a magicians assistant and has a pet parrot. Then last but not least we meet Michiko. She is a Japanese girl who ran away from home and now works with an combat instructors assistant.  All of them are getting ready to go this big party to either put on a performance or to hang around. Eventually they all get together to solve a multi path mystery. As the girls try to solve the mystery things will happen, the unexpected comes out of no where and maybe a chance at love? Follow our three hero's though the many twists and turns of this steampunk mystery and find out who is really behind it all.

I rate this book a 4/5 stars. It was a very good book. Some things threw me off. For example there are two chapters that could have been differently numbered. They where Chapter 10 1/2 and Chapter 10 3/4. It just really threw me off because I am so used to normal chapters. I think that some of the characters could have been brought out a bit more but other than that overall I thought it was a good book.

I am always looking for new books, music, and questions to answer. If you have any suggestions that you would love for me to hear just put it in the comments below. I really hope to here your guy's opinion and would love some tips or points on things I could do to improve the page. Also I would love for you all to just join in and give your input on the books I review or books I should review. Well I need to get going. I will TALK TO YOU ALL LATER! -kaitlynn

Article (Science)

For science class I found this really interesting science article. I thought that you guys would be interested in it. I found it really neat. This isn't the real article, this is just my review on what it was about. I will put a link to the real article at the bottom of the review. I encourage you read to the real one. It was very well written and was very informational.

Studying recent human evolution at the genetic level by Nicholas Wade

It is said the Asians may have a slightly different physical traits, the reason for this stems back about 35,000 years. One of the genes that cause this is EDAR, the stuff that provides instructions that make protein work together. Africans and Europeans carry a different version of the gene, A standard version. To test this gene and see if it was right the scientists used it on mice. To test this they found mice with similar strain of genes as Asians. After some time the mice grew up and the scientists found that they indeed had some of the traits the Asians had. But this all came with side effects, some had extra sweat glands, and another was that some had less breast tissue. Both are somewhat traits on Asians but not completely. One of the last traits would be their teeth, but the mice were not very help full at showing why Asians teeth are they way they are. The reason for this is because mice have different teeth than us making it rather difficult to see any similarities between both the mice and the Asians. All of this lead up to one question from Scientists what trait was the dominant figure for natural selection? Three different scientists argue different views on which trait was the dominant figure. A separate team says that it is all three traits and possibly more. To see if any of their views were right they decided to test a different gene on the mice.

I finally finished Behemoth! YAY! I finished it Friday but accidentally returned the book. So I am going to try to do this all by memory. Other than that I started The Friday Society and picked up another library book. So after The Friday Society  I will try to get  Demon Catchers of Milan done in an decent time. If I don't post for the next two weeks, I am very sorry. My schedule got very complicated very fast. So instead of having one week before Acadec weekend, I am stuck preparing for it and trying it keep up my good work at school. Sorry for those who check up often, there may not be much here for you in the up coming weeks. Now on to my review........

                                 Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld

We open up back where we left off in Leviathan. Alek and this Austrian crew are on board the Leviathan helping it stay aloft and trying to escape when the time is right. Also Mr. Sharp who is Aleks friend. Mr. Sharp works on the Leviathan, and also helps Dr. Darwin. She makes fabricated animals and plants like here father did. ( You know Charles Darwin) Our characters are on their way to Constantinople or Istanbul. They run into many problems along the way. They all learns some secrets and Some of the aid people in a revolt. But in the end people get closer and things get revealed. People fall in love and new beast are discovered. Will they make it out of their journey alive?

I rate this book a 5/5 stars! I found it brilliant, I would never have though of doing some thing like this. Especially based on WW I. I recommend reading both the books.

Sorry the review was short. I was trying not to give to much away and trying to give away the first book. But if you want to know more I would recommend reading both Leviathan and Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld. Well I hope you enjoyed my sort of review of Behemoth. If you have any book you would love for me to read post them in the comments below and I will try to get to them. Along with new music, I would love to hear your guys opinion on what I should listen to. Well I should get going, Talk To You All Later! - Kaitlynn
