Fairies!

Hey Guys! I've been a little caught up with work and school, plus all the little things that have been happening in-between. So I haven't been reading a lot lately, usually its a paragraph or two a day if I'm lucky. Hopefully things will get better soon. But for now here's another review to tie ya'll over....

                               Blackbringer by Laini Taylor
Magpie is a demon hunting Fairy, who travels the world with her caravan of crows. She plans to live a life like the one of her hero Bellatrix, recapturing demons and sending them back to the jars from once they came. Out of all the demons to escape the Blackbringer is the worst and it's Magpie' s job to stop him with the help of her crows and some new friends she meets along the way.

This was the first book I read by Laini Taylor, I bought it dirt cheap and expected the worst. Instead it proved me wrong and turned into a wonderful read. There were even several pictures, that helped with visioning some of the characters. The best part is it didn't really stereotype fairies at all, sure you had those few who could almost be considered your typical fairy but most of them were out side the norm from what is usually read about fairies. It was a nice change of pace, cause who needs sweet/mischievous fairies when you can have daring/adventurous ones instead! There is soooooo much to compliment about this book, and everyone should just read it to find out why!

Ya this was a little short, I'm just trying to squeeze it in really quickly between my current school project and another fun assignment. Sarcastic yay inserted here. But it's almost over so I'm just gonna suck it up for now and hope for the best. Best being, more reading time and tons of good books. Which is what I might ask for my birthday... Alright I've got to get back to work. Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Raised by Wolves?

Hey Guys! I've been in a little bit of a reading slump. Just can't find something that truly interests me. I wouldn't have had this problem if Target wasn't so confusing with their twenty percent off stickers and prices not matching on their price check machines! But its not really that important, so for now I thought I'd do a flash back book to make up for the fact I haven't read any thing new. I also LOVE this author and this was the first book I read by them. SO I hope you guys enjoy this review so much that you go and check them out!

Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Bryn is a human girl who was adopted by a werewolf pack after a rouge murdered her family. The pack life is pretty much all she's ever known. But every now and then Bryn's always up to breaking/bending rules to fit her needs. One day she goes against the orders of her alpha/father and goes to the basement. What she discovers forever changes her life and the lives of the people around her.

It's been a really long time since I've read this. But I just remember it being the best buy several years ago. Even then I wasn't expecting it to be good, werewolves and surprises in basements seemed clichéd to me. But as I read it, I began to realize it was really good. After looking past a few things here and there that would have made most people stop, it was a pretty good book. (spoilers) Kind of wish she wrote a fourth book. I really want to know exactly what happened after the third one. But the second and third books will be saved as a review for another lovely day.

I'm sure my review didn't do to much to sway your opinion on reading this book. But Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a really good author, I've read the majority of her books/series. Which gives me an idea about what to review next, a wonderful little book with a red hourglass on the front.... I'll let you guys take a guess at what that'll be. If you've got any suggestions on books I should read, go ahead and just leave them in the comments below. They should be fixed, so anyone can post a comment now. Well I've got to get going, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Ummmmmmmmmm.....

Hey Guys! I got back here sooner then I thought, well then again I thought a lot of things and none of them turned out to be the way they were supposed to be. Kind of like the book I'm reviewing today... I couldn't even think of a title for this post that even remotely gets close to the book then what it is! Can't wait to start whatever I'm reading next, I haven't decided but hopefully whatever it is, is good.

The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence by Stan Lee
Steven's school trip to Hong Kong doesn't exactly goes as planned when he accidently gets mixed up in an odd plan to use the Chinese zodiac's powers. Unintentionally he becomes one of the twelve zodiac signs. On the run from Vanguard, Steven and several others are on a dangerous race against time and people who are more powerful then them.

This book was ok. I found a couple typos and tons of grammar issues in the copy I read. Also it just didn't "flow" right. The second I saw the title I got all excited thinking it was going to be something awesome and I was going to be unable to read anything else for days. But no, it dragged and didn't feel like the awesome book it was made out to be. (Or at lest I assumed to be...) Also I felt the picture placement didn't make sense. Often they didn't match the part I was reading and that was really annoying. I kind of feel bad about hyping my friends up for this book, its not as great as they think it's going to be.

I can't believe I kept reading that book, I thought it would get better and it didn't. Well it doesn't matter now cause its done and I can go read whatever I want! Again, I don't know what it'll be, but hopefully its good. If you all have suggestions they would be gladly appreciated. Seeing as I no long have my book shelf any more. Currently in the process of slowly moving my stuff to the next place. My cousin's currently going through it while its at her house. I told her she could read what she wants and I'm just glad they are going to be taken care of while they are there. Hopefully she finds something she likes.  Well I've got to get going, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Fashion + Time Travel?

Hey Guys! I decided to not read my last book for English. So far I don't have any regrets, which is good. NOW I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Well at least until some other class tells me I have to read something. I checked out a book from the library for the first time in forever, but I don't know if I'll finish it. Not because I don't have the time (which is partially true) but more because of an interest level. But for now here's something to tide you over until I decide my opinion on the book I'm currently reading.

The Time-Traveling Fashionista by Bianca Turetsky
Louise Lambert has a passion for vintage clothing. So naturally she's attached to a vintage fashion sale that she randomly gets an invitation from, an exclusive invitation at that. But there is more to this vintage sale then it seems, leading Louise on a fantastic adventure through time.

I loved this book surprisingly. Never really been the "girly-girl" type, so this was really out of character for me. But I thought time travel? Why the heck not! Of course the place that Turetsky ends up using just solidified my reason for reading it even more. This book is a little hard to explain as to why I really liked it. It just kind of happened, you all know how that kind of just "happens".

I'm hoping this tides you over for a little bit, cause I've got a bunch of "finals" coming up and a couple other things I need to take care of. BUT hopefully I will make it back here at a decent time with another review. If not I'll try to make it back with some kind of review when I've got the time. Which will hopefully get tripled after schools out. Alright, I've got to go get stuff done so I can go read some more. Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Crime and Punishment

Hey Guys! Finally done with Crime and Punishment! So excited to... oh wait never mind. I've got another book I got to read for English. So it looks like I'm still waiting to read all the cool books I've been stocking up on. Also I feel bad, I just realized I disabled comments for just shy of everyone on accident. But I've fixed it now, so every one can leave their beautiful comments here now! (This was discovered as a product of further "procrastination" the other day.)

Crime and Punishment  By Fyodor Dostoevsky
Follow the path of Raskolnikov as he descends slowly into madness as a result of a crime he committed.
(Really that's the best description there is cause really that's really the entire book in a nut shell.)

If I didn't have to read it for school I would have enjoyed it a bit more. It was a great book, if you like detail. It's one of those take it slowly and pay attention to imagery and all other things.  That's really why there is a down side. It's very detailed and some details can't be missed.  (That may just be my opinion about the details...) But that goes with the heavy Russian text deal. But I loved it and would have loved it more if I didn't have to rush read it to meet slightly unreasonable deadlines.

Sorry this was kind of short. It is kind of hard to describe Crime and Punishment. I did like reading about mental instability though. It allowed me to use some of my odd ball facts in discussions. But I can't wait until I can read whatever I want again. Just a couple of days way now, might have to keep a count down somewhere... The tough choice is going to be what to read, cause I've got a huge list now!  I guess I should go see about finishing my last required (outside of class) English book. Graceling

Hey Guys! I decided to procrastinate some more, well technically it's not procrastination when you don't have the materials to do the things you're supposed to be doing. Well then again, if you've got Doctor Who on then its definitely procrastination. So yep there we go, in a round about way I'm procrastinating. Ok, before I bore you all even more let's get on with the review.

                                       Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Graces are abilities that set special people apart in Katsa world. It isn't to hard to tell if you've got one, usually your eyes are a unusual color. The Graces can be something simple like being an amazing dancer, or being graced with the ability to be an expert killer (If you didn't guess already, this ones Katsa's Grace). Katsa is forced to use her Grace for the king. When Katsa meets Po her whole world starts to change as she begins to learn the truth about her grace.

I loved this book, I read it about four or five years ago. (If you couldn't tell by the slightly choppy description of the book) Sure it had some romance in it (not my favorite parts of any book, not even in my top ten genres) but I feel that the amount of action made up for it.

                                     Fire by Kristin Cashore
Fire as the Grace to control peoples minds. She doesn't like to do it to the innocent, mostly cause she has secrets she's hiding just as much as the innocent people are too. When Brigan  comes to town and asks for her help to uncover a possible plot against the throne. Can Fire do it, or will she let her fears get the best of her?

I don't remember much about this book, I think it's cause I read it right after Graceling with out letting Graceling set in first. It must have been good, I don't know. I might have to reread the whole series and come back to redo this part of the review....

                                  Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
Bitterblue rose to the throne at a young age, because of this the kingdoms advisors have been running the kingdom for her until she comes of age to be able to run the kingdom. Bitterblue decides the only way to better run her kingdom is to dive into the past, may that be by sneaking out at night or by two thieves who only want to steal what's been already stolen.

I disliked this book, I remember it just dragging, and dragging. Sure the idea was there, and it was a pretty good one, but I think it was the amount of unnecessary detail that kept me from truly enjoying it. There was also an extreme lack of action, which made this book way different then the last two in the series.

Alright, I feel better now that I've gotten this whole series sort of off my chest. I feel bad that I just couldn't do it justice. The first two books were good, go read them. If you want to read the third be my guest I'm not going to discourage reading of any kind. Ok, I guess I'm off to finish an episode of Doctor Who, read some Crime and Punishment, and then start a Shakespeare play. I love Shakespeare and absolutely can't wait to start the play I'm going to read. Well, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Snow!!!!!

Hey Guys! I should be finishing up the last 100 or so pages of Crime and Punishment but I thought I'd put off my procrastination to come here and do a review (which could be considered an extension of my procrastination)! Worst part is I've wasted most of my spring break putting it off. Then again I don't think working can be considered part of putting something off but whatever I'm just rambling now....

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
After sixteen years of being on the run from another kingdom. The seven remaining refugees of winter are no closer to getting their home back. The first step is to get the locket, it's nearly impossible when its been split in two. Not as impossible as it might seem for Meira. As Meira and the other refugees get closer to freeing the kingdom of Winter,  Meira starts to realize things might not be as they originally seemed. Will she be able to sort it all out in time to get the locket and save the kingdom of Winter?

Ok, I'm going to admit there is no rating system to even express how much I loved this book. Sure the love triangle thing was a bit out there and could have been left out, But it was an epic book none the less. Some of the characters where addicting, I had to know more about them. And some of the "plot twists" were pretty good. I don't know if I would want a sequel to this, sure the ending meant there was probably going to be one (in this day and age what book doesn't have a sequel). But There would have to be some pretty big "earth shattering" event to have it be good and top the first book.

I'm so glad this ran across my Goodreads page, I had forgotten that I read it earlier in the school year. That's the nice part about having a Goodreads page, you can rediscover all those books that you haven't read in forever but know that you did at some point. The lucky downside is that your To-Read List gets longer the more you hang out on there. I'm so lucky to have it not be able to load on my I-pod or else I'd have literally the entire public library on there! I can't wait to be done with required reading for school, then I can check out the whole library and enjoy reading again! Well I've got to go waste the rest of my day and spring break, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

The End....

Hey Guys! I've decided to take a break from Crime and Punishment. It's good, but it's very detail oriented. Plus I've been rush reading it for school, not because I want to but because I have to. I usually have one day to read over 100 detail oriented pages with annotations. (Well I have to annotate.... makes me wish I had a copy that was already annotated copy.) I wish I could read this with out having to rush through it. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Whatever, I'll just have to reread it later. For  now, let's get on with the end of the world reviews.... (There will be spoilers, I'm going to try to keep them to a bare minimum but it's almost impossible given the fact that these are the last in their series')

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
In the final book of the Mortal Instruments series, join Clary, Jace, and all their friends (and family...) in the fight against their greatest adversary... Sebastian Morgenstern. Things start get more dangerous as shadowhunters withdraw from their institutes and go to Idris. A shocking twist causes Clary and her friends to go on the run. Will they be able to fight Sebastian and his army of Endarkened? Or will they all parish trying?

I rated this a 5/5 stars. The only problem I had was the ending. I loved the characters to much for the series to end, even though I knew deep down in side it had to at some point. As someone really smart/important said one day "All good things come to an end." I also think what happened to one of the characters (Some of you might know who I'm talking about but I'm trying not to ruin the book.) was unfair. He was sooooooo sweet and was just trying to save his friends. He didn't deserve to have his memory wiped!

Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan
Follow the Seven, Nico, Reyna, and Coach Hedge on what could be their final adventure. Even thought the Seven have made progress on their way to stopping Gaea and Feast of Spes, they seem to feel like they are getting nowhere close to stopping her. Nico, Reyna, and Coach Hedge are having the same feelings as they race to get back to Camp Half-Blood in a desperate attempt to stop a growing war between the Greeks and the Romans. Will both groups be able to stop the impending doom they face or will they fail at their quests?

I rated this a 5/5 stars. Alright I will admit that I didn't enjoy this one as much as the last couple books in the series. It may have been just the fact that most of the book was the characters going over what they expect their impending death to be like. I didn't think there was enough Annabeth, I shouldn't be complaining because of how much she was in the previous book but I just didn't see enough of my favorite character.  Though the development of other characters was (I guess...) enough to make up for the fact she wasn't as prevalent.

I'm going to admit that it was easier to review Blood of Olympus then it was to review City of Heavenly Fire. It may have been the fact that it was more generalized where the plot area was concerned. But I don't know which series I was more upset about ending. I think because I knew both authors were starting another series, I was somewhat ok with them ending. Rick Riordan and Cassandra Clare are some of my favorite authors. And it is going to be a sad day when they no longer write books. Ok, I have to tell my self to convince my self to stop procrastinating and go read Crime and Punishment now. Well, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Time Travel Review!!!!!!

Hey Guys! In addition to being extremely distracted.... I've started a Goodreads page! It's sooooooooooo addicting, I spend at least on hour going through their recommendations for me. The hope is that by having the goodreads page it will help me remember to get back here to review stuff. (Cause I haven't been doing a good job about reminding my self.) So far (other than the suggestions) its told me that I've read 10,345 pages this year. I'm really liking this site! But that's not why I got on here! I got on here to review some books, and obviously that what I'm going to do.

The Feast of the Drowned by Stephen Cole
Follow Rose, The Doctor, and the TARDIS through an another through time and space. This time their adventure takes them to London shortly after a major ship sinks in the North Sea. Rose learns about the sunken ship shortly after visiting her friend and learning that her brother had been on the ship. Not too long after the dead from the ship coming back begging to be saved from a feast. Can Rose and The Doctor get to the bottom of this before it's too late?

I loved this book, the only sad part is I can't remember everything I loved about it. It's been a while since I've read it.... well more like about a year. The one line I do (sorta) remember had something funny to do with goldfish. I believe at the time I thought it followed the series (Doctor Who) pretty well.

The Price of Paradise by Colin Brake
Laylora is a paradise planet (It's exactly what a paradise planet would be). Everything is balanced... Well until an explorer and her crew land. Things start to get off balanced and the inhabitants of the planet start to disappear. The Doctor and Rose are rushing to save Laylora. Will they be able to or will they be too late?

Again, I loved the book but it's been sooooooo long since I've read it. I, yet again, remember thinking it was pretty close to the show but other than that I don't really remember much about it.

Ok I'm now realizing that the title is a bit misleading.... I guess the books kind of fit into the "genre" but  coming up with titles is hard! So it's ok that it's horrible and doesn't match, mostly cause it could be worst. But I digress... So I've started a google doc with the list of books that have either been reviewed or are to be reviewed. I'm going to link it down below, along with my goodreads page link thing. (I'll have to figure out how that works. I'm not sure if you could view my page without having an account. But I'll have to mess with it and see.) On a side note, I've read the entirety of Homestuck. Well up till the most recent up date, just have to wait till April 14th to have everything ripped apart again. (Major disclaimer thingy here) Don't read Homestuck if you value your life, may it be emotional or just the entirety of your free time. Alright, I've got to get on my way. I've got 100 pages of Crime and Punishment to read in a short period of time. So, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

I Made it Back! (Finally!)

Hey Guys! Wow, I've decided that I'm kind of a horrible person. I keep forgetting to review all these books I keep reading!  I also keep leaving you guys hanging for months! I've also been caught up in reading Homestuck (don't look it up unless you want to get addicted!). At this point I'm going to have to do three books per review to get caught up! (I bet you all got super excited about that.) Today I will start with two reviews....

The Osiris Curse: A Tweed and Nightingale Adventure by Paul Crilley
Follow Sebastian and Octavia on another adventure. This time it deals with the murder of Tesla and an adventure to Egypt. While investigating a murder our detectives anger a secret society called The Hermetic Order of Osiris, thus forcing them to go under cover. Can they solve this mystery or will all the worlds come to an end?

I rated this a 4/5 stars. I will admit it's been a while since I've read this but I didn't think it was too bad. Wasn't to enthusiastic about the last half of the book (if I remember correctly). I thought it was interesting until the author added his little earth shattering "plot twist" that just was a little whatever. I did like the first book better, but its almost always that way so I'm not too upset.

                                                Atonement by Ian McEwan
It all started in 1935 with one 13 year olds innocent mistake. This mistake leads to major changes in not only her life but the lives of her family and their friend for the rest of their lives. Follow the characters through their life altering events and through world war II from a British point of view.

I can't even think of a rating to describe this book. I thought it was going to be boring because I had to read it for English but in reality it was one of the best I've had to read for English in a long time. I know my description of the book doesn't do it justice. But I loved how the author described WW II and I loved how the book just played out. I could relate to the different characters at different points in the book and just when I thought I could guess the next move the book went a different direction. I kind of just want to stand on a corner and hand out this book to every one who walks by. (Ok that is a little extreme but IT WAS AWESOME!)

I know these reviews aren't the best. It's going to be one of those work in progress "projects".  I'm also going to try keeping up this time and not neglecting you guys again. On a side note, I've started my "New Years Resolution (Revolution... what ever its called)" . Pretty much I have a box that I am going to fill up with the titles of all the books I've read this year. So every time I finish a book I'm going to put the title in my cool looking box and at the end of the year I'm going to look back and see how much I've accomplished. I thought it was good when I ran across it about a month ago. I hope it'll be able to help me (and remind me) to get on here and do reviews. Well I've got to get going, Talk To You All Later! - Kaitlynn

I'M DIVERGENT!!!!!

Hey Guys! Today I'm doing a two for one deal for my review. (It would have been a three for one if I could have gotten my hands on a copy of the last book and gotten it done in time....) Now I've been meaning to review these books for quite a while and the recent release of a trailer for the second movie reminded that I had yet to review them. (Must admit, I wasn't happy with the trailer....)

                                  Divergent by Veronica Roth
Welcome to post-apocalyptic Chicago. Join Beatrice Prior as she decides who she wants to be for the rest of her life. (Before we get any further, Chicago is divided up in to five "factions") Abnegation, the faction known for their selflessness. Amity, the faction known for their peacefulness. Candor, the faction known for their honesty. Dauntless, the faction known for their bravery. And last but not least Erudite, the faction known for their intellect. Each faction is in charge of different things that keep the city running. Like Dauntless are the "police" of post-apocalyptic Chicago. So, follow Beatrice as she makes a decision (or multiple decisions....) that will alter her life and the life of everyone who lives in Chicago.

I loved Divergent! I don't usually read what's popular. (it's kind of a policy thing, just don't like people ruining the books I read or will read.) I decided that before I watch the movie I might as well read the book. I didn't regret that choice. There is really no good way to describe Divergent, it's really one of those "You just have to read it" books.

I'm not going to "review" Insurgent because it's just a continuation of Divergent, and if I did review it... there would be major spoilers. So, I'm just going to leave a picture of one of my favorite quotes from the book instead.

I'm so excited for Thanksgiving break! I've got several days off and a book pile that needs some tending to. (Also it's going to snow! I love snow!!!!!!!!!) I'm hoping to finish (or get close to finishing) A Tale of Two Cities this weekend so when Christmas comes around I can read for two strait weeks books off of my (now ridiculous) book pile. I've got to get back to Tale of Two Cities, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Wuthering Heights

Hey Guys! I've been extremely busy, as usual I come to realize. But today's post really isn't a review, for a reason or two of which you will read about later. I've been reading (alot... again as usual) and I'm not quite sure if I want to update the list (the one at the end of the post) or leave those as surprises for later. For now, off to Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights....

A quick overview (from what I understood)... There are two houses Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. Each house has it's own set of interchangeable characters spanning two generations or so. Each generation had their "problems" and their own "love stories".

AS you could tell from the overview, I really didn't read Wuthering Heights at all. I tried... and I mean TRIED!  But I couldn't keep the characters separate (because I swear they all had the same or similar names!) and the story bounced around a bit to much for me. I couldn't keep track of anything! I believe that if I didn't have to read it and fill out stupid papers for it at the same time,I would have enjoyed it a little more. Maybe one day I will reread on my own. But for now my opinion still stands about disliking it.

I know that this was extremely short, but there really wasn't much to say about the book. I can't wait to start my next independent reading book for English! I've been waiting forever for a reason to read it (other than the obvious, to understand references made in other books...) but haven't actually found one. The best part is I've heard nothing but good things about it! I hope to enjoy it more than the last two books I've had to read for English. I was hoping to start Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens over Christmas break and have time to enjoy it, but instead i'll have to find something else to read. I'm open to suggestions if you guys have any!Well, I've got to get back to work. Talk To You All Later! - Kaitlynn

ACID

Hey Guys! Thought I'd take a break from history work to do something a little more interesting for a minute or two. It took me about four days to read the book I'm reviewing today. The worst part was I had to wait a year for it to come out, then two or three months to be able to read it.

                                                     ACID by Emma Pass
Jenna Strong starts out in prison for the murder of her parents. After a freedom organization gets her out, she spend her time running from ACID. ACID (Agency for Crime Investigation and Defense) controls all of the IRB. They decide who you marry through a series of tests, (in theory) what social cast your in, food rations, and of course the government and police. They control pretty much your whole life. Step out of line, they'll put you away. Fall in love with some one who isn't your Life partner, they'll put you away for that too. Jenna runs into Max and they both end up running from ACID together. Will ACID catch up with them? Can Jenna keep Max from finding out her secrets?

I loved this book, there aren't enough stars to express how much I loved this book. I loved the characters and how they got more complex as the book progressed. I also thought the story was well developed. Every detail I could think of was there, making it easy to sink into this fictional "dystopian" world. Also to get attached to the characters.

I realized that I probably haven't done this book any justice. (It's great read it!) When I looked up reviews for ACID, all I found were reviews about how it wasn't a good book. On the contrary this book is amazing and I believe they've been reading one to many dystopian novels. Then again my opinion  might be a bit biased.... This was my rebound book after having to read Gulliver's Travels. So of course I would find it good, but you know what? After waiting for over a year to read this, I think this was worth the wait. Now I'm taking on the ambitious task of reading a 750 page book in under two weeks. Well I've got to get back to history work. Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Gulliver's Travels...

Hey Guys! I realize I haven't been on in like... forever. I've finally found one book that I have... strong opinions about... If I didn't have to read it for English I would have just stopped reading it. Actually, truth be told, I still haven't finished it but since I've turned in the paper and there's no test... I see no need to finish it.

                      Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift
Join Gulliver in his "travels" to distant lands. Meet the Lilliputians, figurine size people who are alarmed by how big Gulliver is. Pay a visit to Brobdingnag, where the rolls are flipped and the people are giants while Gulliver is about the size of a figurine. See a floating island whose inhabitants speak in terms of music and other symbols. Then end your travels by meeting the Houyhnhnms, horses endowed with reason.

I can't even rate this, I hated it. If you like reading about boring politics and about how stuff isn't important to include, then be my guest and read the book. My thought going into this book was an interesting adventure book but when I started it, I became horribly disappointed. There was next to no action, barely any adventure, and it dragged. Sure that last one may have been the way my copy was printed... But this book was nothing like what every one told me. Every one loved it because they found it interesting or what ever their reasons were. I enjoyed the Jack Black movie better than this and it didn't even follow the book!

I can pretty much tell you I'm not enjoying the books I'm reading for English and the list I have to pick from for my "independent reading project" every quarter. Majority of them are classics (some of which I've been wanting to read for a while) and the rest are fairly recent books. The worst part is Gulliver's Travels has ruined me wanting to read the books I want to that are on this list! UGG!!!! I should have started with the one I wanted to read the most instead of settling for what I thought was going to be the quickest. Well I'm going to go enjoy the beginning of my three week "read what ever I want that is interesting and good" period before I have to pick a new book from the list. Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

A Rose Made of Stone

(This is a little old because I forgot to post it, but I will try and do a current update on a different review...)

Hey! I thought I'd try and get a review done quickly before I finish Rebel by Amy Tintera and move on to another English book. (Again, but at least I get to pick slightly more entertaining books.) Most of the books I have to read for English are classics, or at least I consider most of them classics. Some of them are quite new books. So it's gonna feel a lot like time travel....

The Stone Rose by Jacqueline Rayner
Who's up for another trip in the TARDIS? The Doctor and Rose take a trip to Rome after a quick visit to a local museum. (In the modern time.) When they make it to Rome the Doctor gets caught up in the mystery of a boy and Rose becomes friends with a slave who could see the future. The Doctor learns a horrible secret and Rose is in danger. Will the Doctor be able to save her this time or will she forever be a stone Rose?

I rate this a 5/5 stars. I bought this book because our library didn't have it. All the reviews gave varying points of view. But When I read it I enjoyed it. I thought the author did a good job connecting the characters back to the show and adding to them. Also the story was well thought out, it felt like it could have just been another episode.

I would love to stay and "chat" but I really want to get back to Rebel. So for now, Talk To You All Later! - Kaitlynn

The Help

Hey Guys! I wanted to get on sooner but... well I got really busy, really fast. But I finally finished The Help! (And several other books... The movie missed out on so many great things, and screwed up on a couple of things. Almost wish I owned the movie because it wasn't bad at all...)

                         The Help by Kathryn Stockett
This is the story of several maids and one writer's book on what it's like to be a black maid in the south. Well in Jackson, Mississippi to be specific and if we're doing that this book is about writing the book mentioned above. The Help focuses on three characters: Skeeter, Minny, and Aibileen.

Skeeter's back from college and is ready to write. After getting a job at the local newspaper writing a Q&A for house/cleaning advice. While writing for the column she comes to realize she wants to write more and show the world what's really going on.

Minny's one of the sassiest maids in Jackson, but she makes up for it by being one of the best cooks in all of Jackson. Minny runs into a problem when she sasses her way out of a job and no one in Jackson will hire her. No one except the new person in town.

Aibileen's been raising white children for most of her life. She's on her 18th child, Mae Mobley. Aibileen knows that neither of them are going to have an easy time as Mae Mobley gets older. And Mae Mobley's mom is already making both their lives difficult.

I rated this book a 5/5 stars. The Help was a great read, and even thought it offered some really good points of view. I also liked some of the characters and the things they did or said.

I do apologize for this being over a month late. Since I live closer to people now, everyone wanted to visit and my days got shorter cause of it. I tried a different approach to this review because of the three people point of view set up the book has. (Also cause it's been a bit since I last read it and none of the overviews that I found helped out much.)  I know that the review is kinda off and that the reason I liked it is really short but I've been a little pressed for time and have been working on this when I have time. (I've spent about a month trying to get this whole thing done!) Well I've got to get going, hope to get back on soon. Talk To You All Later!

Beautiful Chaos

Hey Guys! It's getting harder to choose what to review next. All these great books! (Minus the last one I added to the list... I've read Macbeth already but I'm going to reread it anyway, its a great play. Just can't decide which one I should read first.) Almost done with The Help, can't wait to finish! I hope it ends like the movie..... (The next review might have.... Spoilers. So if you haven't seen season 4 of doctor who, you might not want to read this.)

                          Beautiful Chaos by Gary Russell
The Doctor and Donna are back for another adventure in the TARDIS! The Doctor brings Donna back for the first anniversary of her fathers passing. While Donna goes off to spend the day with her family, the Doctor decides to check out some new tech that has been created by a man called Dara Morgan. When the Doctor returns to Donna, he finds out that Wilf has discovered a new star and that it is going to be named after him. (Wilf not the Doctor, just making sure it's clear.) This leads all of them on a wild mystery (with aliens included, as always.) and then unlikeliest of people save the day.

I rate this a 5/5 stars. I believe this was worth the buy. (Well worth the money on my gift card I used to buy it....) The beginning and end were extremely sad because they went back to the end of season 4. Other then that I thought it was extremely well written. I had second thoughts on getting it because most people don't like the books. (The Doctor Who ones.) They say that they aren't as good as the show, but I thought this was one of the best ones I've read yet. The character development was great and the story plot/lines weren't cheesy. It also fit in right in between the two episodes the author was aiming for.

I should get The Help done sometime in the next two days because that is the book I really want to review. Half tempted to not wait till I'm done and just review what I've read. We'll have to see.... But I seriously think I'll have a really bad book-hangover. (A book-hangover is When you've finished a book and you suddenly return to the real world, but the real world feels incomplete or surreal because you're still living in the world of the book. This is according to the Urban Dictionary -scroll over "Urban Dictionary" for link.) I've been so stuck in this book that I almost don't want it to end! It's caused the discovery of a new "band" (I guess you could call them that...) called Post Modern Jukebox. Their more of a cover band with a twist. They use techniques from different decades, for example they did a cover of Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia using the 1920's as a basis for they song. I've got to get going, Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

Book List

I thought that it would be a good idea to give you guys a peak at my TBR list. (TBR- To Be Read) I've had this thing for years! (I don't even remember why I wanted to read some of these books in the first place) And It all ways changes, which mostly includes adding books... There's about 110 books left on the list. (That was after cleaning it out, making it readable, and putting it into a different format so you guys could read it.) These are all books that have been either suggested to me by friends or found on Amazon and in Barnes and Noble. (My two favorite places to look for books.) I hope you find some good book suggestions! -Kaitlynn

Shadowhunters Codex

Hey Guys! I've made some minor changes based on some "suggestions" I got from one of my friends. (I hope you find this easier to read.) I've also been very busy reading, which is no surprise. I can't wait to review it for you guys! So on to today's review....

The Shadowhunters Codex by Cassandra Clare
New to the world of Shadowhunters? Well do we have a book for you! Here's the Shadowhunters Codex, pretty much the hand guide to your new life. It's got everything! A little history, a little bit of pictures, Demonology... And its already slightly annotated for you! (We all know how you hate annotating.) It even tells you to read more books! (They aren't real, sadly....) It's even got a whole chapter on weapons for those people who feel that they don't know enough weapons already. It's even got runes for you to draw for those artists who feel they need something challenging to try. So do you know everything about the life of a Shadowhunter?

I rate this a 5/5 stars. Their were times that it did drag, but its a guide what else would you expect? I thought that the annotations were handled wonderful and the occasional "scribble" (Like full blown pieces of art!) were awesome. Personally I would own it instead of borrowing it from the library because theirs some really cool art on both the front and back inside covers. (Well at least with the hardcovers, I don't know about the paperback versions... I've also heard that the E-books are messed up. Better reason to go to the library if your desperate to read it) Over all I thought it was really good, very detailed but broken up b funny comments from the annotators.

It took me a while to decide what to review, there are just to many options! Plus I fiddled with my site for a little bit while trying to figure out which book to review. Like I said earlier, I can't wait to review The Help for you. I've been kind of obsessed with reading it.... Well I've got to get back to reading it! Talk To You All Later! -Kaitlynn

H.T. Rapinski Here With the Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov

Alright the Caves of Steel is the second book that I have had the privilege of reading in the Robot Series.  Just imagine far in the future when Spacers have colonized fifty planets and the earth is bristling with over ten billion inhabitants.  The Spacers are all powerful and have created an advanced society driven by logic.  The Positronic Brain is used to run all robots and the Spacers have created the first android, a robot that looks and acts like a human.  This is a science fiction mystery novel superbly written by Asimov.  Earth's cities have conglomerated into huge City hubs where the New York City takes up half of the Eastern sea board of the United States.  These Cities are completely covered from the outside world and only the most privileged can acquire sun rooms in order to get UV radiation.  You follow detective Elijah Bailey as he investigates the murder of a leading Spacer who lived in Spacetown.  As this is full of politics the commissioner places his best man on it.  Bailey is joined by the android R. Daneel Olivaw, the R standing for robot.  No normal person can tell that Olivaw is a robot but there are those Medievalists who yearn for the era before robotics and they have intelligence reports that he is a robot.  Bailey and Olivaw have to go from high stakes questioning to chase scenes throughout the cities expressways as Asimov paints the picture of a future of riots where Cities can collapse to kill millions of people on the shortage of just one precious supply.  Tensions rise as Bailey gets closer to the truth behind the murder and who did it as he races against the clock in the final hours of this thrilling investigation.  This is a great read and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.         H.T. Rapinski signing off.
